To celebrate Johnny Appleseed's birthday on September 26th,
we enjoyed a variety of activities.

Math and Science:

Graphing

We each brought in our favorite kind of apple and graphed it using 3 different attributes:  color, size, and stem/no stem.

We sampled 3 different apples, red, yellow, and green and created a class graph.

Measuring

We used a piece of yarn to measure the diameter of our apple and then used our rulers to measure in inches and centimeters.

We made observations and completed our data sheet.

Art:  We made apple cores to display on the bulletin board.

Here are Mr. and Mrs. Appleheads!

Stories we read about Johnny Appleseed:

Language Arts and Science:

We discussed the meaning of this saying and the importance of eating healthy food.

An apple a day keeps the doctor away.

Here's our apple poem for our poetry notebooks:

Way up high in the apple tree

Two little apples smiled at me

I shook that tree and what do you suppose?

Down came the apples and hit me on the nose!
