Accelerated Reader

Accelerated Reader is an important part of our reading program and is used in grades 1-5.  We use the web-based version, and students have a large selection of books to choose from.   Students are required to earn a specific amount of AR points each quarter with a passing grade of 80% or greater.  Please note that although the program will give partial points for scores less than 80%, those points will not be counted.  Your child will receive a weekly student report, letting you see his/her accumulated points for each quarter.  AR tests can only be taken in the classroom and are not accessible from home.

What can you do to help your child with AR?
  • Know your child's reading level.  At this level, he/she will be most successful.  Students are tested three times a year and this information will be sent home.  If you are not sure, check with your child's teacher.
  • Read books at home together and ask questions...  who, what, when, where, why, how.  Encourage your child to take an AR test the following morning at school.
  • Check your child's weekly AR report to make sure he/she is taking tests and passing with an 80% or greater.
  • Use the website www.bookadventure.com at home.  This site is similar to our Accelerated Reader program.  Help your child set up login information on this site.  Students take tests and can earn prizes on this site.
