Johnny Appleseed Day

To celebrate Johnny Appleseed's birthday on September 26th,
we enjoyed a variety of activities.  This year we set up
centers and spent the morning enjoying everything about apples!

The Story of Johnny Appleseed
 Johnny's Story
A Visit to the Apple Orchard
   Apple Puppet
   Johnny Appleseed Hidden Picture

Apple Graphing:  We started our center time off with a math lesson.  We each brought in our favorite kind of apple and graphed it by 3 attributes:  color, size, and stem/no stem.

Apple Cores:  We made apple cores in one of the centers.  Earlier that day we wrote Apple Acrostics.  We glued our poems to the back and then hung our apples from the ceiling.  This was last year's picture without the poem.

Mr. Apple Head:  So much fun to be creative!

Our centers included:

Apple Thumbprint Trees
Apple Cores with an Acrostic Poem
Measuring apples
Mr. Apple Heads
Apple Puppets
Apple Patterns

We read some books about John Chapman's life.  We made Johnny Appleseed using construction paper and wrote about him.

At the end of our day, we enjoyed homemade apple crisp with a dab of whipped cream! Mmm!  Thank you Susan Beltz!

And thank you to all the moms for making it a great day!
